Hi Mark,

I haven't experimented with this much. My page actually moves around and changes height when it filters, as you have described here. The only thing I could think of, and it's not necessarily a great idea, would be to set a height, or a minimum height, for the parent container that the portfolio is located in. That way, when the sorted content is reduced, the height of the container remains consistent. The problem with this obviously is that as you add more items to the portfolio, you'll constantly have to reset the height. There are also going to be cross browser rendering issues (possibly) in terms of exactly how much space everything takes up. The minimum height approach *might* be your best bet, but I seem to recall one of the IE browsers not supporting this variable. I haven't tried messing with it in a LONG time...

Hope this helps, good luck!

Hey Mike,

I fiddled around with it enough to figure something out, it has to do with the "margin-left: 18px;" Once I removed that, it worked fine. I spaced it out again by specifying a width on the list item and centered the image with in the list item to get the effect I wanted.

Might not be the best way, but it works! Thanks again for the tutorial.

Scott,

Not sure what would be causing that little hiccup. Just curious, how many items are you filtering at once? If you're doing a fair number, it could be somehow related to that. My portfolio even stutters just a little bit when the filter just starts (at least on the current computer / connection it does) so it could be a symptom of handling the amount of data you're putting in.

Since I didn't actually put together the original JS stuff, just re-purposed it for Wordpress, you might consider going to the guys who did the original demo and see if they've had the problem. I'd be interested to know what you find out though so I can put updated notes on the tutorial.

This is a great tutorial, thanks for posting this.

I do have a small problem where the items jump a little at the end of transitioning between categories. It doesnt seem to do it on the source you mentioned, but it seems to do jumping effect on your portfolio too.

I'm not much of a javascript whiz so I was wondering if you would be able to iron out that kink.

Hope you can help. Thanks!
