Experimental 2D Graphics (Jan ’12)

As part of the Term 5 elective, Experimental 2D Graphics, we spend one entire class in a room with no computers. We bring all sorts of materials together like paint, magazines, pencils, markers, and glue. Each student uses all these materials to create hand-made textures to scan-in for later use in their digital work.
This exercise is one of many that suggests that not all answers to visual problems lie behind your computer screen. Sometimes you need to get your hands dirty!

I asked my friend who is a graphic designer. He says two good accredited online colleges for graphic design are:
AIU Online (http://www.aiuonline.edu)
International Academy of Design and Technology (http://online.academy.edu/)
Both say they are accredited and when I checked the websites of the accreditation bodies they cite, they were listed as accredited colleges.

Question by Michelllle: Best colleges near Bismarck, ND for computer graphics design?
I am moving to Bismarck once I’m out of high school, and I’m trying to find a good college out there that would have a good graphic design program. I’m also thinking about doing online classes until I do move out there so I can just visit places myself and find one that I like.
Any ideas? Thank you very much!!

I want to go to on of the art institutes and was wondering what they expect a high school student to include in there portfolio. If you could give me a web link to there website which gives you a list to what to include that would be great. I couldn’t find it on there website.
By the way by include, I mean drawings, print design typography and/or etc.
I live in Rochester New York

Question by Christina: Can I get a job in graphics design with only a high school diploma?
Lately I’ve been thinking about my future but I don’t know how I’m going to get scholarships to pay for college. I heard if you make straight A’s you can get a scholarship that pays for you whole college but I make A’s, B’s & C’s. Also if you’re good at a sport you can get scholarships. I play track & cross country but I’m one of the last few to cross the finish line which is not good enough for a scholarship. I have no idea if i’m going to be able to get enough scholarships to pay for college. I was wondering if I can get a job in graphics design that has a good pay with only a high school diploma & a photoshop cs4 certification. Any sources for scholarships in addition would be greatly appreciated.

i know every one hates community colleges, but if you’re doing graphic design then a class from a community college may be good enough. and with your grades the only other option is to take a loan, and you have to pay back all of that.
I know this isn’t relevant, but we have so much in common! I’m on the cross country team (not the best =P) and both of my parents do graphic design!!
